EE on the Road: Lobster Rollin' in Maine

We have scoured the coast of Maine from Kittery Point to Cape Elizabeth in search of the perfect lobster roll.  After dozens of lobster rolls and hundreds of miles (and calories!), we have completed the arduous task of narrowing down the list to 4 of the most scrumptious lobster sammies in the Pine Tree State.  by Lauren Saiger

Footbridge Lobster 108 Perkins Cove Drawbridge, Ogunquit.
Meat: Plump meat tossed lightly in mayonnaise.
Bun: Perfectly toasted white bread, magnificently browned with just the right amount of butter and salt.
Ambiance: Pro – It’s deep in the heart of Perkins Cove overlooking the water.  Con – No designated seating area, which means you really have to take this one to go.
Price: $15.95

The Ramp Bar & Grill 77 Pier Road, Kennebunkport
Meat: More lobster salad than lobster, but in this case, it’s a good thing as it was still meaty, juicy and delicious with the perfect crunch of celery.
Bun: Lightly toasted fluffy white bun.
Ambiance:  A casual sit down establishment.  This place is too cool for school without even trying.  Different sports and political banners hang from the ceiling and the Adirondack chairs overlooking the water outside are great for relaxing after you're stuffed to the gills and can't move.
Price:  $15 and includes homemade chips.

Nunan’s Lobster Hut 9 Mills Road, Kennebunkport
Meat: Overflowing.  Definitely one of the meatier rolls we came across and perfectly dressed in mayonnaise.
Bun: Buttered, lightly toasted white bread bun.
Ambiance:  A true road side shack with an unlimited amount of charm from the moment you step inside its doors up until the waitress brings you your check.
Price:  $11.95

Lobster Shack at Two Lights 225 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth
Meat:  Good meat-to-bun ratio.  Meat undressed with a dollop of mayonnaise on top.
Bun:  Lightly toasted with a hint of salt.
Ambiance:  Lobster Shack is known for their scenic digs. Picnic tables line the water, perfect for taking in the scenic view and the lighthouse.  Absolutely picturesque and great for photo opps.
Price: $14.99

And the winner is…
Footbridge Lobster Roll 108 Perkins Cover Drawbridge, Ogunquit
Despite the lack of seating and slightly higher price, Footbridge wins because it accomplishes exactly what we were looking for - the immediate feeling you get when you take a bite and just think, wow.  And for that reason, Footbridge is the winner.

If you need to escape the city this fall or aren't ready for summer to end, take a lobster roll tour around Southern Maine - you won't be disappointed.
